Let \(L_{A,b} := \frac{1}{2} \operatorname{Tr} [A D^2] + \langle b, D \rangle\) be a second-order degenerate elliptic operator. Under strong assumptions on \(A\) and \(b\) (\(C^2\) smoothness) the authors obtain a solvability result for the equation \[ \lambda u(x) - L_{A,b} u (x) = f(x), \quad x \in [0,1]^d, \] when \(f\) is in a dense subset of \(C([0,1]^d)\) [see \textit{S. Cerrai} and \textit{P. Clément}, Bull. Sci. Math. 128, No. 5, 355--389 (2004; Zbl 1064.60171)]. Under weaker conditions on \(A\) and \(b\) (\(C^\delta\) continuity, among others) the authors show that \(L_{A,b}: C^2([0,1]^d) \to C([0,1]^d)\) is closable and its closure is \(m\)-dissipative.
