The authors study a Cauchy problem over the \(p\)-adic field \(\mathbb Q_p\). We address to \textit{V. S. Vladimirov}, \textit{I. V. Volovich} and \textit{E. I. Zelenov} [\(p\)-adic analysis and mathematical physics. Moskva: VO Nauka. 352 p. (1994; Zbl 0864.46048)] for basic facts on \(p\)-adic analysis and relevant applications in physics and engineering. Namely, the authors study the hyperbolic-type equation \[ \partial^2_t u+ 2a^2 D^{\lambda/2}_x \partial_tu+ b^2 D^\lambda_x u+ c^2u= F \] with initial conditions at \(t= 0\). The unknown function is \(u: [0,T]\times \mathbb Q_p\to \mathbb C\), data are given in the same frame, the operator \(D^\lambda_x\) is the fractional derivative of order \(\lambda\) on \(Bbb Q_p\), and \(a^2+ b^2\neq 0\). A precise result of existence and uniqueness is given, with explicit expression of the solution in terms of the eigenfunctions of the operator \(D^\lambda_x\) in \(L^2(\mathbb Q_p)\).
