Using a similarity analysis, the authors study two quite different mathematical models. The first one was suggested by Swihart et al. [J. Theor. Biol. 210, 287--303 (2001)] to describe the dynamics of a metapopulation, where both predator and prey are present. The second one, proposed by \textit{K. P. Hadeler} and \textit{C. Castillo-Chavez} [Math. Biosci. 128, 41--55 (1995; Zbl 0832.92021)], addresses the effect of education on the evolution of sexually transmitted diseases in homosexual cohorts. The main goal of the paper is to find the values of parameters that allow integrability for both models.
