The author studies the location of the singularities of maps in \(W^{s,p}(S^N,S^{1})\) by using the distributional Jacobian \(J\). The range of \(J(u)\), when \(u\) belongs to a fractional Sobolev space \(W^{s,p}(S^N,S^{1})\), is also described.
