The main goal of this paper is to define the so-called poset-polynomials of a graded poset and to use it to give an explicit and general description of the combinatorial numbers in the well-known Schläfli's reduction formula. It is also proved that in the case of simplicial and simple polytopes these combinatorial numbers can be written as functions of the numbers of faces of the polytope and the tangent numbers. The constructed formulas have been used in Section 5 to determine the volume of 4-dimensional Coxeter polytopes.
