The authors develop a method for computing eigenvalues of a diffusion tensor that is, a fourth-order, three-dimensional fully symmetric tensor to describe non-Gaussian behavior. The tensor was proposed by \textit{H. Lu, J. H. Jensen, A. Ramani} and \textit{J. A. Helpern} [Biomedicine 19, 236--247 (2006)] for diffusional kurtosis imaging for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The method is applied to an MRI image of a rat spinal cord specimen. The smallest and largest eigenvalues, mean kurtosis and fractional anisotropy are determined. Unfortunately, no MRI images are given. Thus the paper lacks a visual demonstration of the meaning of this application and its mathematical treatment.
