This article considers examples of two-step Carnot groups related to the quaternions. It studies their geodesics with respect to the Carnot-Carathéodory metric. It employs the Hamiltonian formalism, and considers the solution which the minimizes an action functional. Fundamental solutions of the heat and Laplace equations are also given.
