The authors study the conserved Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation \(\partial_tu=-\partial_{xx}(u+u_xx+u^2_x)\) recently derived in the context of crystal growth. In particular they study the steady states of the equation and provide numerical and theoretical background suggesting that the function \(u (x,t)\) solution of the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation keeps close to certain steady states, so that the latter are important to understand the dynamics. They further show that this equation can be mapped into the motion of a system of particles with attractive interactions, decaying as the inverse of their distance, and argue that the average interparticle distance grows with time as \(\bar \ell (t)\sim \sqrt t\).
