It is shown that if \(f\) is a transcendental entire function that omits a complex value \(a\in{\mathbb C}\), then the preimage \(f^{-1}(D)\) of any simply connected region \(D\), not containing \(a\), is disconnected. As a corollary, completely invariant domains for \(f\) contain the omitted points. The authors show that any omitted value of an entire function of finite order \(f\) is the projection of a logarithmic singularity of \(f^{-1}\), and extend the above results for locally omitted values. Namely: Let \(f\) be an entire function of finite order, and let \(a\in{\mathbb C}\) be either a critical or a locally omitted value. If \(D\) is a simply connected region that does not contain \(a\), then \(f^{-1}(D)\) is disconnected.
