The author defines a \(2\)-Toda lattice for a complex simple Lie algebra \(\mathfrak g\) as a specific Lax pair equation on an affine subspace \(\mathcal T^2\) of \(\mathfrak g \times \mathfrak g\). He shows that \(\mathcal T^2\) is a Poisson manifold with respect to a suitable \(R\)-matrix and proves that the \(2\)-Toda lattice is completely integrable in the sense of Liouville.
