Let \(A\) be a Banach algebra, then \(a \in A\) is said to be Drazin invertible if there exists \(b \in A\) and a positive integer \(m\) such that \(ab=ba,\;bab=b,\;a^mba=a^m\). The least \(m\) for which this holds is called the index of \(a\). There is also a notion of Drazin invertibility of an operator \(T\) in terms of the ascent, \(\inf\{n \geq 0: N(T^n)=N(T^{n+1})\}\) and descent, \(\inf\{n \geq 0: R(T^n)=R(T^{n+1})\}\). It is shown that \(a\) is Drazin invertible if and only if the left or right multiplication operator is Drazin invertible. The index coincides in this case.
