This paper adds to the earlier paper [\textit{G. Janelidze, L. Márki} and \textit{A. Ursini}, J. Algebra 307, 191--208 (2007; Zbl 1110.18006)] by the same authors, clarifying the relationship between the concepts of ideals, clots and normal subobjects, under a categorical approach. The main result is that in a pointed regular category with finite coproducts, clots are regular images of normal subobjects. Consequently, regular images of clots and regular images of normal subobjects are the same, and since they have shown in their earlier paper that the former correspond to the Magari ideals in the context of varieties, the authors suggest this as a (categorical) definition of ideals. This has interesting consequences for example in the formulation of the Kurosh-Amitsur radical theory.
