The main goal of the paper is to investigate the integrability of a proper differential sequence of ordinary differential equations with recursion operators. The authors introduce a method for deriving an alternate sequence of integrals which is compatible with the proper differential sequence. In some cases, the first integrals of the equations in the differential sequence can be obtained directly from the present method.
