This paper improves an algorithm of \textit{Z. Luo, Y. Liu}, and \textit{L. Chen} [J. Comp. Applied Math. 220, 34--50 (2008; Zbl 1152.41007)] for the adaptive thinning of non-singular triangulations of scattered data. The strategy is based on a discrete norm of \(C^1\)-rational spline functions. A numerical example illustrates the method.
