A frieze pattern is a finite collection of interlacing rows such that the first and last rows consists of ones and every rhombus of the form \( \begin{smallmatrix} & b \\ a & & d \\ & c \end{smallmatrix}\) satisfies \(ad-bc=1\). In the paper under review the authors consider frieze patterns of type \(D_N\) with entries the matching numbers of the vertices and triangles in corresponding triangulations of a disc with a single puncture and \(n\) marked boundary points. It is shown that certain triangulations give frieze patterns whose numbers can be interpreted as specializations of cluster variables of the cluster algebra of type \(D_N\).
