Thirty years ago, \textit{G. N. de Oliveira} [Linear Multilinear Algebra 2, 357--364 (1975; Zbl 0302.15014)] has proposed the completion problems: Describe the possible characteristic polynomials of \([C_{i,j}],i,j\in \{1,2\}\), where \(C_{1,1}\) and \(C_{2,2}\) are square submatrices, when some of the blocks \(C_{i,j}\) are fixed and the others vary. Several of these problems remain unsolved. The authors in this paper gave the solution of Oliveira's problem over the real number field, where the blocks \(C_{1,1},C_{2,2}\) are fixed and the others vary.
