The paper deals with the following question. Let \(R\) be a domain with finite Krull dimension \(d\) and let \(n\) be a natural number. Assume that there are exactly \(d+n\) overrings of \(R\). Does there exist an overring \(S\) of \(R\) such that \(R\) is a maximal non-valuation subring of \(S\)? More precisely, the author considers the case \(R\) is integrally closed. As explained in the introduction, then only the cases \(3\leq n\leq 6\) must be considered. The question is answered affirmatively in these cases, each case being treated separately.
