Let \(k\), \(n\) and \(r\) be any positive integers. Suppose that \(\mathcal{FE}_k\) be the class of all groups \(G\) such that the verbal subgroup \(E_k(G)=\langle [x,{_ky}]\mid x,y\in G\rangle\) corresponding to the \(k\)-th Engel word is locally finite. Suppose that \(\mathcal{BE}_{k,n,r}\) is the variety of groups satisfying the identity \[ ([x_1,{_ky_1}]\cdots [x_r,{_ky_r}])^n\equiv 1. \] In the paper under review, the authors prove that there exists a function \(s\colon\mathbb{N}\times\mathbb{N}\to\mathbb{N}\) such that the class \(\mathcal{EF}_k\cap\mathcal{BE}_{k,n,s(k,n)}\) is a variety of groups. The proof depends on the classification of finite simple groups, the Hall-Higman theory, Zelmanov's solution of the restricted of Burnside problem, and a result of \textit{D. Segal} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 81, No. 1, 29-54 (2000; Zbl 1030.20017)].
