The authors consider the Hamiltonian system \[ \dot{u} = JH_u(t,u) \] where \[ H(t,u) = {{1}\over{2}}u^*Lu + W(t,u) \] and \(L\) is symmetric constant and \(W(t,u)\) is subject to some technical assumptions connected to super quadratic character. The main result of the paper is that under the assumptions mentioned above the system has at least one homoclinic orbit. The proof is based on the use of the associated limit equation \[ \dot{u} = J(Lu+W'_{\infty}(u)) \] where \(W_u(t,u)\rightarrow W'_{\infty}(u)\) for \(|t|\rightarrow\infty\) uniformly on bounded sets of \(u\) and the existence of \(W'_{\infty}(u)\) with required properties is ensured by the above mentioned assumptions on \(W(t,u)\).
