The paper is devoted to flat metric connections with antisymmetric torsion. Cartan and Schouten proved in 1926 that any space of this type splits and the irreducible factors are compact simple Lie group or \(S^7\) with a special connection. The authors of the reviewed paper give a new and elementary proof of the above result not using the classification of symmetric spaces. Moreover, they describe explicitly the family of flat metric connections with antisymmetric torsion on \(S^7\) and discuss its type in the sense of the Fernández-Gray classification. The authors also consider this case from the viewpoint of \(G_2\)-structures.
