The author investigates the Maskit embedding \( M\) of a twice punctured torus \(\Sigma\) using the method of pleating rays \(P\). In such case, the representation variety is smooth and of complex dimension \( 2\). The key idea is to localize explicitly the pleating rays \(P\). The main result is a formula for the asymptotic direction of \(P\) in \(M\), as the bending measure tends to zero. This paper presents for the first time a method which makes viable the prospect of plotting a deformation space associated to a higher genus surface.
