Adaptive sparse grid methods are discussed in connotation with their applicability in solving stochastic differential equations related to scattering of electromagnetic waves by structures with holes of uncertain size, location and quantity. The authors demonstrate computational advantages of the proposed scheme in dealing with discrete random variables.
