Let \(K\) be a field and let \(G\) be a finite group. In this paper, the authors study the periodicity of the Adams operations \(\psi_\Lambda^n\) and \(\psi_S^n\) on the Green ring \(R_{KG}\). Here \(\psi_\Lambda^n\) (resp. \(\psi_S^n\)) arise, as usual, from the study of the exterior (resp. symmetric) powers of \(KG\)-modules. The main results are as follows: If \(K\) has prime characteristic \(p\), then \(\psi_\Lambda^n\) and \(\psi_S^n\) are periodic in \(n\) on \(R_{KG}\) if and only if the Sylow \(p\)-subgroups of \(G\) are cyclic. If \(G=C\) is a cyclic \(p\)-group of order \(q>1\), then the minimum period of \(\psi_\Lambda^n\) on \(R_{KC}\) is \(2q\) and \(\psi_\Lambda^n=\psi_\Lambda^{2q-n}\) for \(n<2q\). Also, the minimum period of \(\psi_S^n\) on \(R_{KC}\) is \(\sigma=2q\) when \(p\) is odd and \(\sigma=q\) when \(p=2\), and \(\psi_S^n=\psi_S^{\sigma-n}\) for \(n<\sigma\). Moreover, the authors use work of \textit{P. Symonds} [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 39, No.~2, 181--188 (2007; Zbl 1134.13004)] to express \(\psi_S^n\) in terms of \(\psi_\Lambda^n\).
