Scale-transformations in the homogenization of nonlinear magnetic processes (Q717178): Difference between revisions

This paper deals with a class of (intrinsically two-scale) variational inequalities of evolution which are transformed to one-scale (upscaling) and back to two-scale (downscaling). The first part of this paper is devoted to a general analysis of these transformations. Next, the nonlinear system is reformulated as a minimization problem using the theory of Fitzpatrick. Then, the author develops scale-integration and scale-disintegration and proves a maximal monotonicity property. The existence and uniqueness of the solution are also established. By means of the results developed in a previous section the author derives the corresponding two-scale problem, formulates a single-scale homogenized problem, and shows that the one- and two-scale formulations are mutually equivalent. In the final part of this paper it is illustrated how this procedure might be extended to other nonlinear models of electromagnetism, of continuum mechanics and heat-diffusion.
