The authors recall a definition of (computable) moduli of smoothness on \(S^{d-1}\) and \(B^d\) \((d>0)\), introduced in a previous paper [Adv. Math. 224, No. 4, 1233--1310 (2010; Zbl 1193.41010)] for \(L^p\) functions \((1\leq p<\infty)\) or continuous functions with the uniform norm and the results concerning the best approximation on \(S^{d-1}\) and \(B^d\) by polynomials obtained for these classes of functions. Then they define new Sobolev type and Lipschitz type spaces on \(S^{d-1}\) and \(B^d\) and study in these spaces polynomial approximations and simultaneous approximations by polynomials of a function and its derivatives.
