The authors analyze the existence of solutions to the initial-value problem for a two-component Camassa-Holm system for waves on shallow water, \[ \begin{aligned} m_t+um_x +2mu_x &= -\rho\tilde{\rho}_x, \\ \rho_t +(\rho u)_x &= 0, \end{aligned} \] where \(m = u - u_{xx}\) and \(\rho = (1 - \partial_x^2)(\tilde{\rho} - \tilde{\rho}_0)\). Unlike the usual Camassa-Holm equation, this system is not integrable. The authors develop a proof of the global existence of conservative solutions to this system, and then prove that the set of such solutions forms a semigroup.
