Let \(\mathcal S_q(\mathbb D)\) be the set of all \(q\times q\) Schur functions in the unit disk \(\mathbb D\), and let \(\mathcal C_q(\mathbb D)\) the set of all \(q\times q\) Carathéodory functions in \(\mathbb D\). Denoting by \({\mathbf I}_q\) the \(q\times q\) identity matrix, for \(\Omega\in \mathcal C_q(\mathbb D)\) one defines its Cayley transform by \(S(w)=({\mathbf I}_q-\Omega(w))({\mathbf I}_q+\Omega(w))^{-1}\), which belongs to \(\mathcal S_q(\mathbb D)\). In this way, an interplay between these two classes of functions is built. The authors study this interplay in connection with the fact that the matrix function given by the values of a Carathéodory function via-Moore-Penrose inverses is also a Carathéodory function.
