This paper considers the weakly damped shallow water equation on the circle, with a time-independent forcing. Assuming that the forcing term is in \(H^1\), the authors prove the existence of a global attractor for the equation in \(H^s\), for \(\frac{2}{3}<s<1\), which is identical to the attractor in \(H^1\), and is compact in \(H^4\). The proof uses the I-method and a decomposition of the solutions into a part which is uniformly bounded in \(H^1\) and a part which decays exponentially in \(H^s\). Some bilinear estimates involving the \(I\) operator are proved.
