\textit{Z. Luo} and \textit{R. Liu} [SIAM J. Numer. Anal. 36, No. 1, 89--104 (1998; Zbl 0927.65123)] have formulated a mixed finite element (MFE) for the regularized long wave equation had been proposed. The authors propose here a MFE formulation for the dissipative symmetric regularized long wave (SRLW) equation with damping. Existence and uniqueness of the generalized solution and of the fully discrete MFE solution are proved, error estimates based on the energy methods are given. Numerical illustrations are also given in support of the theoretical analysis.
