The authors introduce the notion of eigenvalue for monotone (additively) homogeneous mapping pairs (so-called topical mapping pairs) and establish the existence of an eigenvalue for commutative topical mapping pairs \((f,g)\) as well as uniqueness, provided that some orbits of \(f\) and \(g\) are bounded in the Hilbert semi-norm. This gives an extension of the related result in [\textit{S. Gaubert} and \textit{J. Gunawardena}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 356, No. 12, 4931--4950 (2004; Zbl 1067.47064)]. As a consequence of the main result, the nonlinear Perron-Frobenius property for strictly nonnegative tensor pairs \((\mathcal A, \mathcal B)\) is obtained without involving the calculation of the tensor inversion. Moreover, the Collatz-Wielandt min-max type property for topical mapping pairs and some concluding remarks are included.
