Two presemifields \((S_{1},+,\star_{1})\), \((S_{2},+,\star_{2})\) of characteristic \(p\) are called isotopic if there exist \(F_{p}\)-linear bijections \(M\), \(N\), \(L : S_{1}\to S_{2}\) such that \(M(x)\star_{2}N(y)=L(x\star_{1}y)\) for all \(x,y\in S_{1}\); strongly isotopic in case \(M=N\). The triple \((M,N,L)\) is called an isotopism. The aim of the paper is to compare the construction of presemifields by \textit{L. Budaghyan} and \textit{T. Helleseth} [Lect. Not. Comput. Sci. 5203, 403--414 (2008; Zbl 1177.94137)], BH for short; and the construction of semifields from [\textit{G. Lunardon} et al., Ric. Mat. 60, No. 1, 125--142 (2011; Zbl 1228.51003)], referred to by LMPT. Both construction have been refined and generalized by \textit{J. Bierbrauer} in [Des. Codes Cryptography 61, No. 2, 187--196 (2011; Zbl 1241.12004)]. The authors prove that all the semifields from class LMPT of order \(q^{2\ell}\), \(q\) an odd prime power, \(\ell>1\) odd, are isotopic to a presemifield inside the class BH. They are strongly isotopic if and only if \(q\equiv 1\!\!\pmod 4\). The isotopisms are explicitly constructed. Indeed, the authors take a detour via the corresponding symplectic presemifields by constructing a isotopisms for the latter first.
