The authors describe the pushforward of a matrix factorization along a ring morphism in terms of an idempotent defined using relative Atiyah classes, and use this construction to study the convolution of kernels defining integral functors between categories of matrix factorization. In addition, the authors give an elementary proof of a formula for the Chern character of the convolution generalizing the Hirzebruch-Riemann-Roch formula of \textit{A. Polishchuk} and \textit{A. Vaintrob} [Duke Math. J. 161, No. 10, 1863--1926 (2012; Zbl 1249.14001)].
