    Given a field~\(\mathbb F\), let \({\mathbf M}_n(\mathbb F)\) denote the space of \(n\times n\) matrices over~\(\mathbb F\). \textit{P.~Šemrl} [Linear Algebra Appl. 413, No. 2--3, 364--393 (2006; Zbl 1090.15002)] asked: Find all mappings \(\Phi: {\mathbf M}_n(\mathbb F)\to{\mathbf M}_m(\mathbb F)\), \(m>n\), satisfying \(\Phi(ABA)=\Phi(A)\Phi(B)\Phi(A)\) for all \(A,B\in{\mathbf M}_n(\mathbb F)\). The present author settles this question on nondegenerate mappings (\(\Phi\) is degenerate if \(\Phi(A)=0\) for all singular matrices) assuming that \(n=2\), \(m=3\), \(\mathbb F\) is algebraically closed, and \(\mathrm{char} \mathbb F\neq2\). As expected, the results have connections with results due to \textit{D.~Kokol-Bukovšek} [Linear Algebra Appl. 296, No. 1--3, 99--112 (1999; Zbl 0934.20042)] on nondegenerate multiplicative mappings.
