The paper extends the results contained in [\textit{D. Ya. Khusainov} et al., Nonlinear Oscil., N.Y. 11, No. 2, 276--285 (2008); translation from Nelinijni Kolyvannya 11, No. 2, 261--270 (2008; Zbl 1276.34055)]. The main goal is to provide a representation of the solutions of Cauchy problems for differential equations with delay by using matrix polynomials -- more precisely, the so-called delayed matrices sine and cosine. At first, a representation of the solution of the inhomogeneous second-order differential equation with single delay and \(C^1\)-initial conditions is given. In the sequel, the authors investigate the representation for the solutions of the Cauchy problem with two delays \[ \ddot{x}(t)=-B_1^2\,x(t-\tau_1)-B_2^2\,x(t-\tau_2)+f(t), \] where \(\tau_1,\tau_2>0\) and \(B_1, B_2\) are permutable matrices.
