The author considers the Sturm-Liouville equation \[ -y''+qy=\lambda y, \] where \(q\) is a function meromorphic in a domain \(\Omega \subset {\mathbb C}\). He obtains necessary and sufficient conditions for the equation to be monodromy-free, i.e. the monodromy of its fundamental solution along any closed path bypassing the poles of \(q\) to be trivial.
