A space \(X\) is rectifiable (resp. a rotoid) if there are a homeomorphism \(h:X\times X\to X\times X\) and \(e\in X\) such that \(h\) preserves the first coordinate and \(h(x,x)=(x,e)\) for all \(x\in X\) (resp. \(h(x,e)=(x,x)\) and \(h(e,x)=(e,x)\)) and is diagonal-flexible if for each \(z\in X\) there is a homeomorphism \(h:X\times X\to X\times X\) which takes the diagonal to \(X\times\{z\}\). It is shown that diagonal-flexible spaces with countable \(\pi\)-character are first countable. Examples are given of a compact diagonal-flexible space which is not rectifiable and a paratopological group which is not a rotoid.
