In this note, the notion of strongly continuous cosine function in a Banach space is investigated by using the Laplace transform, and some results are given. It is well known that this operator-valued function is the solution operator (i.e., propagator) for a well-posed incomplete second order abstract Cauchy problem in a Banach space. For more information on the vector-valued Laplace transform and the general solution operators (i.e., propagators) for higher order abstract Cauchy problems in Banach spaces, we refer the reader to the monograph by \textit{T.-J. Xiao} and the reviewer [The Cauchy problem for higher-order abstract differential equations. Berlin: Springer (1998; Zbl 0915.34002)] and the references therein.
