\textit{L. Boutet de Monvel} [Acta Math. 126, 11--51 (1971; Zbl 0206.39401)] constructed a calculus of pseudodifferential boundary operators on a manifold with boundary. It includes the classical differential boundary value problems as well as the parametrics of the elliptic elements. It is well known [\textit{M. Wodzicki}, Invent. Math. 66, 115--135 (1982; Zbl 0489.58030)] that on a closed manifold, the noncommutative residue of a classical pseudodifferential projection vanishes. Employing results by \textit{S. T. Melo} et al. [J. Reine Angew. Math. 561, 145--175 (2003; Zbl 1043.19003); J. Reine Angew. Math. 599, 217--233 (2006; Zbl 1121.19001)] on the \(K\)-theory of Boutet de Monvel's calculus of boundary value problems, the author shows that the noncommutative residue introduced by \textit{B. V. Fedosov} et al. [J. Funct. Anal. 142, No. 1, 1--31, Art. No. 0142 (1996; Zbl 0877.58005)] vanishes on projections in the Boutet de Monvel's calculus. This partially answers a question raised by the first author and \textit{G. Grubb} [Math. Scand. 103, No. 2, 243--277 (2008; Zbl 1189.35347)], namely, whether the residue is zero on sectorial projections for boundary value problems. This is confirmed to be true when the sectorial projection is in the calculus.
