The authors establish a theorem concerning the existence of an integrable solution of nonlinear quadratic integral equation of the form \[ x(t)=u(t,x(t))+g(t,x(t))\int_{0}^{\varphi(t)}k(t,s)f(s,x(s))ds,\, t\in I=[0,1].\tag{*} \] Chandrasekhar's integral equation \[ x(t)=1+x(t)\int_{0}^{1}\frac{1}{t+s}\psi(s)x(s)ds \] is a particular case of (*). Under appropriate conditions the following theorem is proved: {Theorem. } The integral equation (*) admits a solution \( x\in L^{1}(I)\). A technique of measures of weak noncompactness and a variant of Schauder's fixed-point theorem are used for proving the theorem. An example is given to illustrate the result obtained.
