The authors succeed to perform the simultaneous homogenization and dimension reduction limits to derive in the joint \(\Gamma\)-limit (homogenization and small thickness limits) an elastic energy corresponding to a nonlinear plate theory in 3D. One of the key aspect in the proofs was the use of the concept of renormalized two-scale convergence.
