Hofer-Zehnder capacity of unit disk cotangent bundles and the loop product (Q484254): Difference between revisions

The study of invariants of a symplectic manifold is a fundamental problem in symplectic geometry; on the other hand, the existence of periodic orbits of Hamiltonian systems is also a crucial issue. H. Hofer and E. Zehnder have introduced in 1990 and 1994 a remarkable invariant which reflects behaviors of periodic orbits, the so-called Hofer-Zehnder capacity. Indeed, one every symplectic manifold with finite Hofer-Zehnder capacity, we have an existence theorem on periodic orbits, or quantitative estimates of the Hofer-Zehnder capacity have implications in symplectic embedding problems. In this paper, the author proves an important finiteness result for the Hofer-Zehnder capacity of certain unit disk cotangent bundles.
