In this paper, the authors consider the maximality of a contractive tuple of operators. To this end, they show a characterization result for maximality of a contractive tuple. Also, they define the notion of maximality for a submodule of the Drury-Arveson module on the \(d\)-dimensional unit ball \(\mathbb{B}_d\) and obtain that, for \(d = 1\), every submodule of the Hardy module over the unit disc is maximal. However, for \(d \geq 2\) they show that any homogeneous submodule or submodule generated by polynomials is not maximal. Finally, they give a characterization of maximal submodules.
