The considered viscoelastic wave equation is actually a linear homogeneous integro-differential equation with delays. Attached to it are initial and boundary conditions. The well posedness of the stated problem is investigated. An energy estimate for solution is proved first. Further, this estimate will be used to obtain a result on the uniqueness of the weak solution to the problem. The result on the existence of a weak solution is proved by means of the classical Faedo-Galerkin method. In case of a missing damping term, under some special assumptions on the kernel in the memory term, an exponential energy decay result is proved.
