The aim of the paper is to discuss the lower/upper property of the Crouzeix-Raviart (C-R) element eigenvalues on adaptive meshes. The authors first discover and prove that the eigenvalues by the C-R element approximate the exact ones from below when the corresponding eigenfunctions are singular. The interpolation postprocessing is performed by means of conforming finite elements to get the upper bound of the eigenvalues. From the upper and lower bounds of the eigenvalue, one obtaines an error bound of the approximate eigenvalue and then design the control condition of the adaptive procedure. Some numerical experiments validate the theoretical results.
