The purpose of this impressive article is to prove some results about the cohomology of certain Shimura curves. These include (1) some multiplicity one results for the mod \(p\) cohomology of Shimura curves at Iwahori level; (2) the fact that some globally defined lattices in the cohomology of Shimura curves are determined by certain local \(p\)-adic Galois representations; (3) a new proof of certain cases of the Buzzard-Diamond-Jarvis conjectures. Items (1) and (2) were conjectured in the paper ``Sur un problème de compatibilité local-global modulo \(p\) pour \(\mathrm{GL}_2\)'' [J. Reine Angew. Math. 692, 1--76 (2014; Zbl 1314.11036)] by \textit{C. Breuil}, with an appendix by Dembélé. These conjectures of Breuil (with computational evidence provided by Dembélé) come from the \(p\)-adic local Langlands correspondence. Over \(\mathbb{Q}_p\), the completed cohomology of modular curves can be described in terms of the \(p\)-adic local Langlands correspondence for \(\mathrm{GL}_2(\mathbb{Q}_p)\). If \(K\) is a finite extension of \(\mathbb{Q}_p\), it is expected that the completed cohomology of Shimura curves can likewise be described in terms of data coming from the anticipated/hypothetical \(p\)-adic local Langlands correspondence for \(\mathrm{GL}_2(K)\). Breuil and Dembélé's conjectures are motivated by this expectation. The article under review has a very clear and informative introduction, detailing Breuil and Dembélé's conjectures and their relationship with the \(p\)-adic local Langlands correspondence, as well as explaining the method of proof (the construction of patching functors, a vast generalization of the Taylor-Wiles-Kisin method, and the use of the geometric Breuil-Mézard philosophy).
