After introducing nuclear operators on Banach spaces by Grothendieck, many mathematicians have worked on these types of operators. Suppose that \(C_b(X)\) denotes the Banach lattice of all bounded continuous real functions on a completely regular Hausdorff space \(X\) and \((E, \|\cdot\|)\) be a real Banach space. A linear operator \(T: C_b(X) \to E\) is called \(\sigma\)-additive if \(\|T(u_n)\| \to0\) whenever \((u_n)\) is a sequence in \(C_b(X)\) such that \(u_n(x) \to 0\) decreasingly for each \(x \in X\). The author characterizes \(\sigma\)-additive nuclear operators \(T: C_b(X) \to E\) in terms of their representing measures. As an application, he presents a formula for the trace of \(\sigma\)-additive nuclear operators \(T: C_b(X) \to C_b(X)\).
