A metallic structure on a manifold \(M\) is a (1,1)-tensor field \(J\) on \(M\) such that \(J^{2}=pJ+qI\), for some real numbers \(p,q\), and \(I\) being the identity (1,1)-tensor field on \(M\). A metallic pseudo-Riemannian structure \((g,J)\) on \(M\) is given by a metallic structure \(J\) and a pseudo-Riemannian metric \(g\) on \(M\) such that \(g(JX,Y)=g(X,JY)\), for all vector fields \(X,Y\) on \(M\). In the case \(p^{2}+4q>0\) one can define two complementary distributions on the manifold \(M\) (thus \(M\) being an almost-product manifold), whilst in the case \(p^{2}+4q<0\) one can define two complementary distributions in the complexified tangent bundle of \(M\). The authors study geometric properties of the above mentioned distributions, such as integrability, geodesical invariance, and a Chen-type inequality.
