This beautiful survey ``is in three sections. The first considers strongly-additive real-valued arithmetic functions. The second section of the survey covers Rényi's conditional probability treatment of Linnik's Large Sieve, and a finite frequency model again appears. The third section considers Linnik's application of the theory of probability in an arithmetical study of quaternions, afterwards exposed by Linnik in a monograph.'' The interested reader is highly recommended to read the entire article, full of details and interesting reminiscences.
