The author studies the asymptotic Weyl formula for a class of compact selfadjoint pseudodifferential operators with symbols which have a decay with respect to \(\xi\) depending on \(x\), i.e., \[ |\partial^{\alpha}_x\partial^{\beta}_{\xi} a(x,\xi)|\leq c_{\alpha,\beta}(1+|\xi|^2)^{-(m+\varphi(x))/2}(1+|\xi|)^{\delta|\alpha|-\rho|\beta|}, \] where \(0\leq\delta<\rho\leq 1\), \(m>0\) and \(\varphi\) is a smooth nonnegative function satisfying a suitable condition. When \(a\) is real, hypoelliptic and satisfies a specific nondegeneracy condition, the author obtains an asymptotic formula for the eigenvalue distribution function.
