    The authors study the Cauchy problem for the quasilinear Schrödinger equation (QLS) in the form \[ i \partial_t u + \Delta_g u = 0, \quad u : \mathbb R \times \mathbb R^3 \to \mathbb C, \] \[ \Delta_g(g - \mathrm {Id}) = |u|^2 g_0, \] \[ u_{|t = 0} = u_0, \] where \[ \Delta_g a = \sum_{k, l = 1}^3 \partial_k (g^{k, l} \partial_l a). \] The local wellposedness of this problem is proved. The main result of the paper is formulated as follows. Theorem 1. A constant \(c_0\) exists which satisfies the following. Assume that the initial data \(u_0\) is in the space \(\dot{H}_{\frac{1}{2}} \cap \dot{B}_{2, 1}^{\frac{3}{2}}\). If \(u_0\) satisfies \[ \| u_0 \|_{\dot{H}_{\frac{1}{2}}} \leq c_0, \] then a positive time \(T\) and a constant \(C\) exist such that a unique solution \(u\) of QLS exists in \(C([-T, T]; \dot{H}_{\frac{1}{2}} \cap \dot{B}_{2, 1}^{\frac{3}{2}})\) with \[ \| u \|_{L^{\infty}([-T, T]; \dot{H}_{\frac{1}{2}} }) \leq 2 c_0, \quad T^{\frac{1}{2}} \geq \frac{C}{\| u_0 \|_{\dot{B}_{2, 1}^{\frac{3}{2}}}}. \] Moreover, for any \(\frac{3}{2} > s > 1\) a constant \(c_s\) exists such that \(T\) can be chosen such that \[ T^{\frac{1}{2} (s - \frac{1}{2})} \geq \frac{c_s}{\| u_0\|_{\dot{B}_{2, \infty}^{\frac{3}{2}}}}. \] The last estimate is a consequence of the dispersive properties of QLS and is obtained from microlocal Strichartz estimates for a regularized metric. Furthermore, the authors show that their method can be applied to the case of a rough time dependent metric.
